IAMAT is a non-profit organization established in 1960. Our aim is to advise travellers about health risks, the geographical distribution of diseases worldwide, immunization requirements for all countries, and to make competent medical care available to travellers by western-trained doctors who speak English besides their mother tongue.

| Malaria - Dominican Republic November 27, 2007 | |
| Two cases of falciparum malaria have been reported in a German couple who travelled to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) continues to recommend malaria prophylaxis (medication) and the use of personal insect protective measures against mosquito bites for travel to rural areas of the Dominican Republic AND to all areas, including resort areas, within the province of La Altagracia.
