How to… bring back memories, not TB

Can you get Tuberculosis from being in a plane? Unlikely, since airlines must follow strict ventilation protocols. However, if you’re travelling or working in areas where TB is endemic, you’re at higher risk.

In this Tip Sheet, public health expert Shirley Cheng looks at the risk of contracting TB during travel and offers advice to those that may be exposed to this airborne bacterial infection, especially in light of multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensive drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB).
