Risk is present in rural areas below 2500 m / 8,202 ft with the highest incidence rates reported from the following departments: Arauca, Casanare, Cundinamarca, Meta, Norte de Santander, and Santander. Blood supply screening is mandatory. Public health education and eradication programs are ongoing.

Main vectors: Rhodnius prolixus, Triatoma dimidiata
